"Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid Reflection
Reflection of Girl
Why
we have to do everything in order to satisfy other people. Can we be ourselves
and take our own decisions without the advice of someone else? People are
always focus on what other persons do. Since the beginning of the story we
notice that there is an atmosphere of anger end rebellion as the narrator wants
to be the way she is without satisfying the desires of others in order to be as
the society wants. From history we can notice that women have been victims of
society. People do not stop being aware of the lives of others, so people
choose to do what others want to see. And this is not correct since one must be unique and make
their own decisions. Do things for the pleasure of others is not good, it is as
if they direct your life, they become owners of you only to take the decision
to do what others expect. One must be unique and take control of his own life,
learn to make decisions and do what one thinks is right. In the story she is
being strongly influenced by her mother to be something she is not. in the part
that tells you
“On Sundays try to walk like a lady and not like the slut you are so bent on
becoming” the
atmosphere is a bit sexist and cruel. This is repeated twice. The story shows the pressure that
society imposed to women although this has change through time.

I agree with you with the fact that you should not do things for the pleasure of others, but in fact you should do what you want to do for your life.
ResponderBorrarExactly, one should live life their one way. It's your life and nobody has the right to tell you how you need to live it.
